Common questions
What domains can I use?+
Any domain you own. Register it wherever you like — GoDaddy, BigRock, Cloudflare, Hostinger, Namecheap — and point its MX record at us. We send you the exact records to paste.
Does the Gmail app work?+
No. The Gmail Android app blocks third-party IMAP. Use Apple Mail, Outlook, Spark, Thunderbird, K-9 Mail, or our webmail — all of those work great.
What happens after the 30-day trial?+
If you don't pick a paid plan, outgoing mail stops working. Your mailboxes and messages stay around for another 30 days so you can come back. After 60 days total, we delete the data.
Can I migrate from Gmail / Google Workspace / Zoho?+
Yes, included free on every paid plan up to 10,000 messages per mailbox. We do it over a 30-minute video call — you give us an app password to your old account and we copy everything across via imapsync.
Where are my emails physically stored?+
On a self-hosted Mailcow server in Frankfurt, Germany (Contabo data centre). Account metadata sits in a managed Postgres in the same region (Neon, eu-central-1). Encrypted off-site backups in a separate EU region.
Is this GDPR compliant?+
Yes — data lives in the EU and our handling practices follow GDPR. See the privacy policy for specifics on retention, access, and deletion.
Will my domain be visible to Stash staff?+
Yes — we're the admin of your mail server, by definition. We don't read your mail, we don't train AI on it, we don't sell it. But we can technically see metadata (sender / recipient / subject). Same trust model as Zoho or Workspace — except the operator is one identifiable person, not a black box.
What if you shut down or get acquired?+
If we shut down voluntarily, you get 60 days' notice and pro-rated refunds for any prepaid time. If we're acquired, your data goes to the buyer under the same terms and you get 30 days' notice to leave before that takes effect. Details in our terms of service.
How do I leave?+
Change your domain's MX record to point at the new provider. Your mail stops flowing to us within an hour or so. We'll keep your data for 30 days in case you change your mind, then delete.
